you never know what you might get
I love kids. I love the crazy things that come out of their mouths, like these two hilarious statements said to me this week: In a kindergarten class I was explaining the concept of more and less. I was saying that I could eat more than William (one of the goofiest boys in the class) because I am bigger than him. However, I continued, maybe one day when he is bigger he will eat more than me. One...

substituting essentials
i’ve been on a few substitute teaching jobs in the past couple of months and have already learned a great deal. first off i kinda love it. its fun to see different classrooms. to see different teachers ways of doing things especially classroom management. its so nice to spend the day with a bunch of kids. however, i’ve got to admit that it makes me sad that i don’t have my own...

Australia
I’m trying to wrap my head around the past year of my life. I started 2010 in Thailand finishing up my last few months of teaching there (which was probably one of the best life decisions ever). Then I moved home to travel around the country for the summer before settling downtown working with the Kivu Gap year. I spent 12 weeks living with the girls in the program before moving home...

a year ago today i was flying on my own around the world into the unknown. i was scared to death. i barely slept the night before. i could barely utter a word on the drive to the airport. my parents drove me and we took some goodbye photos which are unbelievably ugly and tear filled. i almost left my computer in security cause i was so flustered. i glanced up for one last goodbye look at my...

praise the lord.
so today i woke up and checked facebook like usual and was greeted with the most wonderful news. my thai friend had commented on one of my pictures of my baby onrumpha saying that she had seen her while visiting the orphanage. the best news was that my friend said onrumpha is in starting the process of adoption. this is an answer to prayers. i’ve visiting that little girl for a year....

…omaha….a wonderful city. everyone always talks it down. it was beautiful and charming. yes a little sketch in some areas but every city has a little bit of that. its really artsy and wonderfully green. definitely enjoyed my time there. …college graduates…gotta love being surrounded by people who are so excited to have accomplished something that they worked so hard at....

subtitles
my friend brenna is leaving in 6 days so we had to fit in one more thai movie before she heads state side. last night seemed like the opportune time to go so we headed out to catch a flick. unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) for us there were no thai movies with english subtitles. we decided to step up our cultural experiences and see how much we could catch by just watching it. plus we figured...

koh si chang
a few weekends ago some friends and i snuck away for the long holiday weekend to a little island off the coast. it only took a hour and half bus ride and a 45 minute ferry ride for us to arrive at our 7 sq. kilometer island. since it was so small we were able to see the whole island and enjoy all of its beauty as well as get educated on the history of the island. the island has served as a...
