the kivu gap year has begun
well here we are. all settled into the Gap Year house down by city park in denver. there are 9 students in the program and luke and i with the help of tamara are getting them settled in to this new year of life they have chosen. its going to be an exciting adventure for each one of them as they newly discover who they are in God’s eyes. they will find the truth in God’s love this year. they will more fully discover their heart’s desires and find ways to serve according to the gifts they have been given.
as i walked behind the group the other day i couldn’t help but be filled with excitement at this new adventure. its going to be full of heartache for each one of them as they find their hearts broken by the world. but they will also be filled with joy as they see the faithfulness and beauty of the Lord throughout the world. as they learned in class today, a sacred place can be anywhere. God is everywhere and they have just dipped their fingers into the beauty of what God has created. this year is going to change their perspectives and open their eyes and they will find themselves meeting with God right where they are. they will be given the opportunity to take God’s hand and walk through this life with him, seeing the things that he loves and the things that break his heart.
as we drove home from an expedition to the mall last night one of the boys pulled up give me your eyes by brandon heath on his ipod. there we were blaring it on the phenomenal kivu van speakers with all the kids singing and one even signing the words to it. it was a beautiful moment. join me in praying the prayer of this song for these students this year. let them be more like Christ…one filled with love and compassion as they head out with a noble and valiant desire to serve and make this world a more beautiful place.
“give me your eyes for just one second
so i can see everything i keep missing
give me your love for humanity
give me your arms for the broken hearted
ones that are far beyond my reach
give me your heart for the ones forgotten
give me your eyes so i can see.”
