subtitles

my friend brenna is leaving in 6 days so we had to fit in one more thai movie before she heads state side. last night seemed like the opportune time to go so we headed out to catch a flick. unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) for us there were no thai movies with english subtitles. we decided to step up our cultural experiences and see how much we could catch by just watching it. plus we figured we could just make up our own story line if need be. the lady at the ticket counter was very concerned about our movie watching experience but we assured her we would be fine.

let me give you a little bit of a glimpse into thai movies. picture an american soap opera. multiple the drama, bad acting and more filming by 10. then subtract the sex and kissing and add in some lady boys and you pretty much have a thai love story. it was hilarious. an hour and a half of only understanding some of the things said and then figuring out the rest based on the acting. i was so involved by the end it was ridiculous.

but here comes the best part. during the movie the security guards were wandering around like crazy and people kept coming in late. we wondered what was going on and then found out when the movie ended. as we were leaving we noticed a guy giving one girl flowers and then pictures were being taken. it ended up being one of the actors in the movie. he was sitting in there with us. in our theater in our neighborhood. we were so excited. we chased (literally) after him and were able to snag a few photos of him. he didn’t seem to care at all that two white girls were in his movie but boy were we excited. it was by far one of the funnier experiences i’ve had here in thailand. the mall has been so fun for me this year!
